-----------------

The Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) has pleasure in announcing the 2002 FAI Young Artists Contest, the main purpose of which is to promote interest in air sports in particular, and in aviation and space generally. The competition is open to young people between the ages of 6 and 17.

The theme of the contest is:

Silent Flight

This theme gives a great deal of scope for inventiveness and creativity. Entrants are invited to interpret this theme in whatever way they choose, giving full rein to their imagination. Remember though, that the FAI is particularly concerned with all forms of sporting and recreational aviation, including:

Ballooning
Gliding
Parachuting
Aerobatics
Hang-Gliding and Paragliding
Microlight/Ultralight Flying
Model Aircraft
Light Aircraft and Helicopter Flying.

In the UK, the Guild of Aviation Artists is responsible for making arrangements for a national competition, on behalf of the Royal Aero Club. From this, a maximum of 9 paintings (3 in each age category) is selected for forwarding to the FAI.
UK entries must be submitted to the Guild and not direct to the FAI.

Entries forwarded to the FAI will then be judged by an International Jury. The winners in each age group will receive Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals, together with Diplomas. Unless the winners are able to be present in person at the FAI event at which the medals will be presented, the Medals and Diplomas will be given to the FAI delegates from the countries concerned, who will then be responsible for arranging a suitable occasion for the presentation of the awards.

Entries, once received by FAI, will become and remain the property of FAI, which may use them for a variety of purposes.
