Profile of the
RAeC General Secretary
Diana King
| Diana King was brought up in a gliding
family and started flying gliders at the Long Mynd in
1969, at the age of 16. She later qualified as a British
Gliding Association instructor and, although she no
longer holds a rating, she continues to coach other
pilots in soaring and cross country flying. She owns an LS8 with her husband Phil, with whom she shares an enthusiasm for long distance and expedition cross country flying and for wave flying, both in the UK and Europe and further afield when possible. They base their glider at Shobdon in the winter months for hill and wave flying, and at Stratford in the summer. Diana holds an FAI Diamond badge and has flown over 2000 hours in gliders. Diana qualified as a solicitor and worked in private practice, before leaving to work for 13 years as Chief Executive for the English Ski Council, a national governing body of sport. She then worked as a Business Researcher and Analyst in the marketing department of Eversheds, an international legal firm. She then set up on her own to work freelance, mainly in sports administration and writing, but also doing some marketing and general business administration. Diana was a Director of the Central Council of Physical Recreation for 10 years and a Council member of the UK Sports Council for 3 years. She has also been a member of the BGA Executive Committee from 1984 to 1993 and again since 2002. She was awarded the O.B.E. at New Year 2000 for services to sport. |
